How matatu businesswoman was Conned Ksh3.8 Million in KDF Jobs Scam

A matatu businessman has been charged with obtaining Ksh3.8 million from his colleague in the pretence that he would recruit jobless relatives to the Kenya National Police Service and KDF.

Johnstone Mutua Ndelo is alleged that between February and May 2021 in Nairobi with intent to defraud obtained ksh3.8 million from Rose Adhiambo Odido by falsely pretending that he was in a position to help her secure employment slots during the Kenya National Police Service and Kenya Defence Forces recruitment exercises.

According to police report, the complainant is a businesswoman in the matatu industry within Nairobi and she came to know the accused person in 2017 while the two owned matatus in a Sacco.

“In January 2021 when the KDF recruitment exercise was announced, the accused approached the complainant and told her that he had a connection with a person in authority who could assist him secure some vacancies” read the police report.

The complainant confirmed the recruitment had been advertised in the newspaper. Later that day, the accused told the complainant that he had three slots that traded at ksh300,000 each.

The complainant who had three relatives in need of the job went ahead and gave the accused ksh900,000. The accused person would ask her for more money citing various logistical issues.

He also informed the complainant that he had another two slots for the Kenya National Police Service recruitment and each was Ksh450,000 which she went ahead and gave out.

The accused person pleaded not guilty before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and was released on a cash bail of Ksh300,000.
