Three foreign suspects from Cameroon were caught with counterfeit money at the BTL site in Ruiru on Monday evening.
Ruiru sub-county detective Cyrus Ombati said Francis Proper, 44, Job Kentong, 31, and Njikam Omar, 37, were found in possession of foreign dollars, pounds, and Kenyan shillings, all valued at Sh362 million.
He explained that detectives received information from BTL residents that some people were locking themselves inside a certain house all day without being seen outside.
“When the officers arrived at the scene they found the money and 320 kilograms of gold while an investigation into its legality was launched,” said Mr Ombati.
The official explained that the officers obtained the money along with a counterfeit machine.
He further added that for several weeks they had been conducting an investigation to track down the suspects who were allegedly hiding while conducting illegal activities.
“We congratulate the people for providing us with information about the suspects. We will continue to make efforts to ensure that such illegal trade does not continue in Ruiru and its suburbs, ”said Mr Ombati.
He said detectives had arrested several suspects who had engaged in similar activities for the past two years.
He further explained that the area is one of the buildings that continues to be built but is not completely completed.
In February 2019 in the Kwihota area of Ruiru detectives seized counterfeit money worth Sh32.6 million and 70 kilos of counterfeit gold.
Mr Ombati said the suspects were being interrogated after which they would be arraigned in court on charges of counterfeit money making gold and gold.
