Jeff Bezos: The richest man in the world is asking for a tax increase for businesses

Must read

In a rare political speech, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos said he supported Biden’s plan to increase corporate taxation from 21 percent to 28 percent.

Biden is calling for tax increases to partially cover the cost of his ambitious plan to upgrade key infrastructure such as highways, ports, water networks and internet connections.

The plan is found by the richest man in the world, who posted on an Amazon blog asking Democrats and Republicans to “work together” and reach a compromise for the sake of a common goal.

“We recognize that this investment will require concessions from all sides – both on the individual details and on how it will be financed (we support an increase in corporate taxation,” Bezos wrote.

“We look forward to working with Congress and the Government to find the right, balanced solution that sustains or enhances US competitiveness.”

Bezos, however, did not say whether he supported the other tax reforms promoted by the Biden government, such as the taxation of corporate profits abroad and the negotiations for the introduction of a global minimum tax.

The truth, of course, is that Bezos and his company have been repeatedly accused of tax evasion in the past.

In 2020, Amazon paid a net federal tax of 9.4%, according to the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy.

In the latest controversy, Amazon responded to Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who accused the company of paying “almost nothing” in taxes.

Amazon said it reported $ 1.7 billion in costs and $ 350 billion in investments last year. Current legislation provides for tax exemptions for research and development activities.

“You write Senator Warren’s laws; we just enforce them. If you do not like the laws you created, please change them. “
