A joint sitting of the Senate Standing Committees of Devolution and Finance today met with Vihiga Governor Hon. Wilber Otichilo and petitioners among them,Joseph Simekha, following a statement by Vihiga Senator,Hon George Khaniri concerning the suspension of the implementation of the county’s budget for the financial year 2021/22.
The petitioners who are residents of Vihiga County,moved to court challenging the legality of the budget in which they argued that budget estimates were not approved by the county executive Committee as required by section 129 (1) of the PFM Act.
The High Court then issued a Conservative order stopping the implementation of the financial year 2021/22 budget approved by the assembly. The area Senator thereafter sought the intervention of the Senate through a statement to intervene on the matter.
