There have been reports that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have been working on a coalition with the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) which is led by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In past interviews, Hon Raila Odinga stated that the talks are on and the officials and the think tanks of the political parties are working closely to form favorable policies in the coalition.
President Uhuru Kenyatta will retire after the 2022 general elections and different political leaders are already campaigning in efforts to succeed him.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that the elections will be held on August 9th next year and the commission has even started mass registration of voters.
The allies of Deputy President (DP) William Ruto have been urging him to seek leaders with similar political ambitions and woke together with them to increase his chances of winning the presidency.
The DP has not been in good terms with President Uhuru Kenyatta and it is likely that the two leaders cannot work together in 2022 as they initially planned in 2013.
Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju also confirmed the reports on working with ODM. Mr Tuju said that the have been having several meetings with ODM in efforts to form a united front ahead of the next general elections.
According to today’ s Sunday Nation newspaper, President Kenyatta and Raila 2022 coalition plan has been reveled.
The newspaper, the agreements are done and it will be an ODM candidate as the flag bearer with a Jubilee running.
The draft agreement by the handshake team awaits approval of the two party leaders i. e Raila Odinga and President Kenyatta.
The possibility of the two parties joining forces in next year’ s general elections seems to very possible and if the draft is approved then Raila will be thr presidential candidate.
