Following the death of Juja Member of Parliament Francis Munyua Waititu alias Wakapay, the constituency seat became vacant.
The high-stakes election drew 11 candidates, but the field has been narrowed down to Jubilee’s Susan Njeri Waititu, People’s Empowerment Party candidate George Koimburi, and Independent candidate Joseph Kariuki Gichui.
The Juja Constituency has approximately 115,000 registered voters spread across five wards.
Susan Waititu, the late MP’s wife, cast her ballot shortly after 10:00 a.m. at the Jomo Kenyatta DEB Primary.
Voting for the Bonchari by Election has begun at the Suneka Baraza Hall, which serves as the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) tallying center.
Following the death of Bonchari MP Oroo Oyioka in November of last year, the constituency seat became vacant.
Teresa Bitutu, the wife of Oyioka, is one of the 13 candidates vying for the seat.
Between Jubilee’s Zebedeo Opore, ODM’s Pavel Oimeke, and UDA’s Teresia Bitutu, the by-election is expected to be a three-horse race.
Former Woman Representative Mary Otara (United Green Party), Jonah Ondieki (New Democrats), Victor Omanwao (People’s Economic Development (PED), Charles Mogaka (Progressive Party of Kenya), David Ogega (Kenya Social Congress), Kevin Mosomi (PDU), and Eric Oigo (National Reconstruction Alliance) are among the other candidates.
