Kamilulu day secondary school in Igembe posted exemplary results in the just-released KCSE examinations despite challenges posed by day schools.
The top student posted grade B- (minus). The school principal said there was a slight improvement in performance compared to last year, but was satisfied with the results.
The mean score for the school was 4.321 up from 4.1 last year.
The principal credited the good performance to teamwork between the management, teachers, parents and pupils.
“The school is facing a number of challenges, including a student lunch levy and uniforms. We ask that well-wishers help us develop our school so that we can continue to post high mean scores and enroll more students in universities and other tertiary institutions,” he said.
“I appreciate the area administration and the sub chief’s efforts to maintain order and security,” he said.
Among the top performers in the school, one is a girl, who scored a B-(minus).
“I scored a B- (minus) and thank God for it. I’d like to tell my friends that they should never give up hope, even if they attend a day school. Most students do not want to attend day schools, but you must consider your family background,” she said.
“I struggled to achieve the grade, and I urge students who are struggling to pay their school fees not to keep it to themselves; instead, they should come out and express themselves, and they will be heard.”
“I’d like to express my gratitude to the residents for being with us and protecting us. We learned discipline from our teachers, and we read at all hours of the day and night until we sat for KCSE.
“I thank God for helping me to join university directly under Kenya university and colleges central placement (KUCCPS),” she said.
