A family in Meru County is now homeless after a KDF soldier went berserk and allegedly set their house on fire.
The incident took place in Antuambui in Igembe subcounty.
Baite TV understands that the soldier, Mutembei, was accompanied by five men and a theft suspect tied with a rope around his hands.
He accused the owner of the house of being an accomplice.
“They summoned me while I was in the kitchen preparing food for the children,” said the wife.
“Mutembei ordered me to open the door of the main house. He ordered Muthamia, the suspect, to get inside.
“They never responded when I asked what they wanted, instead ordered Muthamia to take out everything they used to steal with my husband.
“As my husband was not at home at the time, I asked Mutembei to tell me more about the property my husband had stolen with Muthamia but he did not respond.
“Muthamia told them that there was nothing in the house and that he led them there because they had beaten him so badly.
“Mutiga had a can of kerosene, which he gave to Itare, who spilled it around the house and set it on fire.
“When my child asked Itare to save her school uniforms, he threatened to throw her into the fire.
“She child ran away and left the house on fire.
“When I went to report the incident to the police station, I was given an OB number and asked to return the next morning.
“I didn’t wake up early enough to report to the police station, so I went to the Chiefs’ camp instead.
“I told him that my children aren’t going to school and did not have clothes because all our belongings were destroyed. I also informed him that we slept in a banana plantation.
“When I got home, my younger brother offered to let me and my children sleep in his kitchen until we could decide out what to do the next day.
“The chief never paid us a visit, however, we happened to cross paths on the road, and all he could ask was why I wasn’t walking normally.
“I’m wondering if there is justice in this country if someone can go so far as to show me his army job card identification and threaten to kill me.
“I suspect that both our area chief and the Kalung’e chief looked down on me because my father left me a piece of land adjacent to the road, which they may intend to steal,” she said.
