Officials from the A.P training camp in Tigania approached the Kiramancuma school committee and board, requesting land to set up the camp. The school committee agreed, and a boundary was established.
Later, the government announced plans to purchase a 4.5-acre plot of land 200 meters away from the current site in order to relocate the primary school and allow for the expansion of the A.P training camp.
The decision to relocate the school was opposed by the parents, members of the school committee, and the board, who accused the DCC Tigania-Central of a conflict of interest.
“We don’t know what to do because the DCC announced that the school will be relocated. We are well aware that there is no other place to relocate the school.
The question we’re posing is how beneficial it would be for the children if the school is relocated. We’re also curious as to why the DC is so interested in school despite being a civil servant, said Geoffery, a member of the school committee.
“We, the parents of Kirimancuma Primary School, are opposed to the proposed relocation of the school to Kinyua’s land. As parents, we cannot afford to educate our children in private schools,” said a parent.
“The meeting was not announced to half of the board members. Chapter six cap 75 of the constitution states that a State officer shall behave, whether in public and official life, in private life, or in association with other persons, in a manner that avoids–
(a) any conflict between personal interests and public or official duties; (b) compromising any public or official interest in favour of a personal interest,” said the chairman of the board of governors.
“As a member of the nursery committee, I am opposed to the school’s relocation. According to rumors, the relocation site is Mwithune, Nyayo.
The DCC considers money, and the team with whom he works are not parents. They don’t have any children who attend Kirimancuma. I have a child in the nursery and another who has completed KCPE and but we will not let the school be relocated,” said Kendi.
“I am a member of the public participation group for the relocation of the Kirimancuma primary school to a new location. The reason for this is that the government intends to expand the A.P training camp to accommodate more students and government officers.
“The camp sits on a 4-acre land, which is why the government intends to relocate the primary school to a new site 200 meters away.
On March 15, I came here to launch a public participation exercise. As a result of the public’s complaint to the attorney general, today’s meeting was supposed to be with a team from Nairobi on a fact-finding mission rather than with parents and school board members.
The land has not grabbed but the government intends to purchase 4.5 acres for the school. Keep in mind that the A.P. and college are government entities.
I really encourage the school board and parents to come in for a meeting so that I can clarify everything and answer any questions they may have, said Patrick Messo, DCC Tigania Central.
