The recent circulating news that has sparked massive stir, debates and arguments across all social media platforms is that of the Agriculture CS Peter Munya and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi’s handshake in the presence of ODM party leader Raila Odinga in Tharaka Nithi.
The recent debates and arguments over the two sworn political rivals have raised lots of concerns as the unexpected handshake caused massive reactions.
In his message, Munya took the privilege to acknowledge Raila Odinga as a dynasty of struggle, a fighter for the people and Kenya. He said that Raila Odinga is the proud inheritor of that history and Legacy from a family that struggled to make the lives of other people and lives of this country better.
According to Kiraitu, Raila is focused, has a lot of energy and is very bright. He said that Raila is a strategist and a fearless fighter and If we wanted the fight to succeed, we should be on Raila’s side.
Kiraitu said Raila was the only one who would transform the economic revolution in the mashinani for the youth and he was not following him foolishly.
“Raila Odinga is not a dynasty that was being purported in other places by some people. I know the plans that Raila Odinga has to uplift those people at the bottom while building on what the President has done and will transform this country,” Munya said.
According to Munya, Raila will support those who really need it so that they can also live a dignified life and also contribute to the economy of the country.
He said that Raila Odinga had a great plan which is doable and it had been done elsewhere. According to Munya, once the economy is grown, the energies we have will be liberated to continue building our economy
“I’m sure that little money will be generated to support the others so that they can also come up and continue building the momentum for our economic take-off. I want to thank God for what the people have prayed for me. God has so many plans in and in Christianity we say that there is a God moment,” Munya said.
“The scripture says that there is a moment of God for the people and according to me, the signs are clear that the moment of Raila Odinga has come. Those who are not believing they better come join us. There are some people who purport to have climbed the mountain and confidently say they are on top of the mountain,” Munya said.
“They did not realize that they had been guided by the wrong guides, so they have arrived there at the old Moses and think that they are at the peak of the mountain because they have been misled by the wrong people into the mountain. Raila has followed the right guides, the people who have the local information, the local touch and the trust of the local people,” he said.
According to Munya, he can see Raila already on the top of the Mountain and he is not coming down. He said that Raila would never come down and he would always be on top viewing Kenya from above while looking at all the corners of the country.
Munya said that Raila would observe closely the country and guide us on where we are heading.
According to Kiraitu, politicians are very interesting because, for all these years, they have never discovered that there are poor people in this country.
“There is no need for much talk because it seems that people have already made their decision to support Raila Odinga. There is a need for all of us in the country to unite like our neighbors in Tanzania,” Kiraitu said.
“They are now discovering them now and everyone is talking about the poor, mama mboga, boda boda operators like they are visitors in Jerusalem. We had the mama mbogas and boda boda operators for years. We hear everybody talking the economic language with the poor,” he said.
“They are saying how they intend to uplift people and how they are going to do an economic revolution. The only man that can be able to do an economic revolution in Kenya is Raila Odinga. Raila has been tested. I have worked with him with and James Orengo and others,” he said.
“We worked when it was very difficult here in Kenya and I have my own history. I knew Jaramogi personally and he used to call me his son. I have been to his home in Milimani in Kisumu and we dined many times. We followed him because of his politics and he did not understand the politics of others,” he said.
“Jaramogi always spoke for the poor and the oppressed and that is the tradition which Raila has followed and that is why we are talking positively about him. We fought as a country for the second revolution which was freedom and for the third revolution, I have no doubt with Raila Odinga because he’s a man of energy,” he said.
“We know the kind of person he is and as politicians, we should avoid promising the people promises that we know we can’t deliver,” he said.
Kiraitu told the chair of the budget committee Kanini Kega that people want money in the mashinani. He said that If the BBI was passed, in Meru County he would have gotten an extra Sh6 billion..
“I do not want Kanini Kega to start telling me about 2022. 35% does not require a referendum, ward fund does not require a referendum and youth council does not require a referendum,” he said.
“Kanini Kega should bring a motion to the parliament at this time and all the members of parliament should support it so that we see who rejected it so that we can know someone who rejected is talking lies when he says that he wants to uplift the youth, he said.
“So Kanini Kega because you are supporting baba, bring a motion in parliament so that we can bring money to the mashinani and the motion should be passed this year as we wait for it to be implemented in the next budget cycle. Mount Kenya East has sent Kanini Kega to bring a motion in parliament so that 35% can be brought to the mashinani,” he said.
“We want to drive this country as different Kenyans on our own. We are saying as Mount Kenya East that we are tired of supporting other presidential candidates and this time around, We want to walk side-by-side. So when you greet Baba, you should also expect us to greet Baba, when you talk with baba, we also talk with Baba,” he said.
Kiraitu requested leaders to respect one another. He said that Mt. Kenya East doesn’t want to be looked down on as and it does not want to look down on anybody. He said that Mt. Kenya East does not want to be marginalized either politically or economically.
