Deputy President William Ruto has said he helped President Uhuru build new roads and even a railway line and implementing the Bottom-up economic model will not be hard for him.
Speaking in Kilgoris on Thursday, the DP said that there were only 20, 000 households connected to electricity when he went there in 2013.
“Now, there are about 90,000 households are connected. These rich people are trying to say that I have been inciting the poor and I want to tell them that I helped build the railway, 10,000 kilometers of road and connected over eight million homes to the electricity,” Ruto said.
“Now that we have accomplished all that, one important thing we need to do is to create jobs for the youth and support SMEs. We don’t want the rich to disturb us with the constitutional amendments to create seats for themselves. That will wait until we all have jobs,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ruto hit out at rivals. saying that they are confused and stuck in tribal formations, which is why they don’t have a presidential candidate up to now.
“I am neither a drunkard nor a fool, and I am not mad as well. I have said that those who are seeking to create positions for themselves by amending the constitution will have to wait until the youth have jobs,” the DP remarked.
“We have an agenda, the bottom up economic model, to uplift the jobless, those with small businesses and farmers so that we can grow together. The people we are competing with have no agenda. Your agenda is to fight Ruto,” he said.
Ruto’s main opponent in the 2022 poll is seen to be ODM leader Raila Odinga as OKA is yet to settle on a presidential candidate.
Raila has laid out sections of his agenda for the youth and SMEs.
The second in command noted that the priority should not be on changing the constitution, but reducing the cost of electricity and living, as well as creating jobs for the youths and favorable business environment for SMEs to grow.
