Former US President Barack Obama’s stepmother, Kezia Obama, died.
Kezia, 81, was Barack Obama Snr’s first wife and the mother of Malik Obama, Auma Obama, Sadik Obama, and Mustapha Abo.
Auma Obama confirmed her death on Twitter, writing, ‘Lost my beloved mother yesterday.’ ‘I’m numb.’
According to The Standard, family members, led by Malik’s other brother, Said Obama, said the 81-year-old matriarch had been ill for some time.
Nelson Ochieng, the late Mama Sarah Obama’s personal assistant, described Aoko as an eternal optimist who positively influenced those around her.
It is unclear whether the deceased, a Muslim, will be buried later Wednesday, April 14 in the United Kingdom in accordance with Islamic tradition.
“We, on the other hand, wish her remains could be transported to Kenya so that she could be interred at her ancestral home in Siaya,” a relative said.
Mrs. Obama died on Tuesday in a UK hospital where she was being treated.
Her death comes just two weeks after Mama Sarah Obama, the family’s great grandmother, died.
