Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has publicly endorsed Raila Odinga’s State House bid after declaring his intention to form a political party for the Meru people and promising one of the most rigorous campaigns ever.
Raila met with a group of Meru politicians at a city hotel on Thursday, September 2.
Kiraitu Murungi said that he was one of those politicians who engaged in dirty politics with the goal of smearing, demonizing and destroying the image of other politicians.
He confessed that he was part of the team that used dirty politics to help President Uhuru and former President Kibaki win elections.

He claimed that they worked hard to make Raila look bad in the Mt. Kenya region.
“On the 14th of October 2002, Raila left Nyachae having tea at Serena hotel and crossed over to Uhuru park and said Kibaki tosha, Kiraitu said.
“Kibaki became president that day For us who had been castigating him, he became our greatest friend and hero.
“After Kibaki went to the hospital shortly afterward, it is Raila who carried the campaign across the country, He used to say that when the captain is injured, the football must continue.

“At the time, we had all nice things to say to Raila until 2007 when he opposed Kibaki and 2013 against Uhuru.
“In 2017, it was our duty as strategist for both Uhuru and Kibaki to develop some fictions and narratives which we are calling demonization. “We are the ones who demonised this man (Raila) so that Kibaki and Uhuru could win.
“I want to tell you for sure there is nothing wrong with Raila,” Kiraitu said. I can tell you from my position and the roles I played then, there is nothing wrong with Raila .
“We had to make the man black so that we can win. “Kibaki and Uhuru are no longer contesting in 2022, so we must abandon the propaganda against Raila.

“Anything that happened until yesterday is history.” Raila is a hero of the handshake,” Kiraitu said.
Kiraitu said he would be in the frontline in drumming for Raila’s support in the Mt. Kenya region.
He said the politicians and business leaders intend to create awareness on Raila being a strategist, a man of ideas, knows more history than historians, a man of energy, focus and determination.
“Nothing will stop where Raila wants to go and when he is in front, his troops will never be afraid. We did a lot of street protests in Nairobi but we will never succeed without Jakom coming to the scene,” Kiraitu said.

“He is also a man of compromise, a very realistic politician. When we thought Moi was bad, Raila went to work with him
“We were left with Orengo casting stones againist Raila for working with Moi. But finally he is the one who rescued us from destroying KANU from within,” Kiraitu said.
Kiraitu appears to have made a U-turn in his political career. Previously, he declared his support for DP Ruto’s presidential bid.
“William Ruto is the man who has gone around the country talking about President Uhuru. We will express our gratitude by endorsing his presidential bid in 2022,” Kiraitu said.

“We have stated that all votes in 2022 will go to William Ruto,” Kiraitu said.
What prompted Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi to change his tune and declare support for Raila over Ruto? Another question is why Kiraitu Murungi suddenly believes Raila Odinga has become good.
“We’re here to talk about today, not yesterday, and to figure out what we can do together tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
“Politicians are strange creatures, so I’m skeptical of political friendships. You see people who haven’t fought for reasons you can’t see.

“Friends of yesterday become enemies of tomorrow for no reason, and enemies of yesterday become friends of tomorrow again for no reason.
“I don’t want our politics to be based on personal friendships. We should leave it to the men and women of this country to deal with them.
“As elected officials. Our common interests bind us together. You scratch my back, and I scratch yours. It is our common interests that unite and divide us,” Kiraitu said.
