Knockout Challenge Is Unfolding Between Karua & Waiguru Over Who Will Win Kirinyaga

Must read

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has told Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua to be content with being the spokesperson for the Mount Kenya Unity Forum, adding she should be ready for defeat should she pursue the county top seat.

Waiguru on Wednesday said she is prepared to face all her opponents in defending the governor seat in next year’s polls.

She expressed optimism that Kirinyaga residents would vote for her again based on her development record.

“My sister whom I trounced in 2017 should know that the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat is already filled in 2022,” Waiguru said

“Let her continue serving the responsibility she was accorded as a spokesperson for that caucus.”

Waiguru said she would comply with what the electorate advised her on her political path.

“I said in this journey I won’t go it alone but will listen to my people. Which political party would you want me to defend my seat with?” she posed to which the crowd in attendance overwhelmingly responded ‘UDA’.

“My track record speaks for it’s self and for that reason I’m positive, you the people will entrust me with the job once more.”

Waiguru spoke in Thiba ward, Mwea, during the hand over of a tomato green house plant that will benefit the Mwihiko-Jericho tomato growing farmers group.

The tomato growing initiative is under the Wezesha Kirinyaga empowerment project.

Other projects are poultry, dairy, avocado, pig rearing among others.

County assembly majority leader James Murango hailed Waiguru for her work as he rallied the people to vote for her again.

“It is good that you are listening to the voice on the ground. It seems this time round the people have decided to go the wheelbarrow way.It is good you give it a good thought,” he said.

Should Waiguru settle for UDA, she is set to face county woman representative Wangui Ngirici in the primaries.

Ngirici,a staunch supporter of UDA and a political ally of Deputy President William Ruto is also eyeing the governor seat.

A few days ago she said she is ready to welcome Waiguru to the party but should be ready to face her in the party nominations.

“Should she join us I’m ready for her, under the condition that should I be the party flagbearer, she should support me but should she trounce me, I’m ready to support her.”

Last week, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka led a delegation to Waiguru’s official residence in Kirinyaga on a mission to woo her to join OKA as a co-principal.
