Lawyer Morara wants Uhuru to refund money spent on the BBI

Must read

Morara Omoke, a City lawyer, petitioned the Court of Appeal to compel President Uhuru Kenyatta to publicly declare the amount of money spent on all aspects of the process.

Morara wants Uhuru to personally reimburse public cash spent by the BBI steering committee to support the Constitution of Kenya Amendment Bill, 2020, from the National Treasury.

Morara has also requested the dissolution of the National Assembly, as proposed by former Chief Justice David Maraga, in a suit filed at the Court of Appeal. It lacked the legal and constitutional authority to consider or pass the constitutional amendment bill, he claimed.

All appeal cases involving the BBI procedure will be heard by a seven-judge panel, according to Court of Appeal President David Musinga.

“Let us be civil. Let us respect one another. Let us be balanced in our comments. Let us also realise that we have an important judicial process that must be handled in a very sober manner,” he explained.

“Let us not prosecute or defend our positions outside there in the media. There should be no unnecessary attack by all concerned parties,” he added.
