A wedding party in Bangladesh turned into a deadly accident, as a lightning strike killed 17 guests, while 14 are seriously injured.
The lightning struck the area as the boat arrived on the banks of the Padma River in the town of Simbang as guests headed to the bride’s home, said police officer Farid Hossain.
“We have information on 17 people who died and others who were taken to hospital,” Hosain said.
Fourteen people were injured and taken to hospital, firefighter Meherul Islam said. The groom is among the injured.
Lightning kills hundreds of people each year in Bangladesh, which declared a natural disaster in 2016, when more than 200 people were killed in May, including 82 in a single day.
