Locals battle with swarm of ‘very aggressive’ killer bees

Must read

A large swarm of ‘very aggressive’ bees attacked residents of Laare in Igembe, Meru County.

The swarm of bees had built their hive in an electric pole in the area and were provoked when a woman on a phone call stood near their bees and were drawn to her spray before encircling her and attacking the residents.

The swarm forced shops to be closed for several hours in Laare Town and two people passing through the area were stung hundreds of times.

“There were bees everywhere, thousands, literally thousands,” said an eyewitness.

According to a Miraa trader, someone may have agitated them by hurling a stone at them. He said to avoid being bitten, all shops were closed, and residents took to their heels.

He said in the process, a customer stole his Miraa.
