MERU COUNTY(Meru Town): Three vehicles hit by a lorry along Meru-Nanyuki road were badly damaged.
An eyewitness said the driver of the lorry was believed to have lost control of the vehicle when navigating downhill due to faulty brakes and crashed into other vehicles causing a pile-up.
“The lorry crashed into three cars and a motorcycle. All the victims escaped uninjured, but their vehicles were damaged,” He said.
In a separate accident, a lorry lost brakes and knocked a pedestrian before crashing into a Probox that was parked near wooden stalls.
One of the Probox’s occupants was injured but fortunately, no one was killed in the crash. The accident occurred in Kiirua, Meru County.
According to an eyewitness, the lorry was speeding down a steep slope on its way from Kathima. The injured were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
He suggested that bumps be installed on the steep slope to slow down speeding cars.
According to another eyewitness, Benjamin, the scene of the accident had been marked as a black spot.
“I urge the authorities to install speed bumps so that fast cars can slow down. Two cars were recently involved in an accident near the scene. I also urge residents to exercise caution when walking on roads “said Benjamin.
“Luckily, no one was standing in the stall, as they could have been killed. I advise Boda Boda riders to drive slowly and avoid competing with one another. No one knows who the accident will fall on next time,’ said Benjamin.
He thanked the fire and rescue team for their prompt response after being notified.
He stated that he was confident that those who had been taken to the hospital for injuries would recover.

“Before crossing the street, pedestrians should check to see if there are any approaching cars. I implore the insurance companies to cover the cost of the damages incurred by the car owners “George stated.
He said that the Lorry was transporting potatoes from Kathima. He said that the road was an alternative route for vehicles avoiding the dangerous Subuiga hill.
“The road was built by Hon. Kinoti, and it has greatly facilitated movement,” said George.
He thanked the residents of Kiirua for assisting with the loading of the scattered potatoes.
