A truck driver dragged and killed a union member who was on strike outside a supermarket chain in the city of Novara, in northwestern Italy, early this morning .
The victim was 37 years old, an Italian of Moroccan origin. He took part in a strike outside the store and, along with other colleagues, tried to block the supply gate.
According to the first testimonies, the perpetrator wanted to enter the inside of the department store despite the block. Tension was created and with his truck he dragged the trade unionist for at least 20 meters. After a few minutes, the 37-year-old left his last breath on the asphalt, before it even became possible to provide him with first aid .
The driver of the truck injured two other workers and then tried to leave. After a while he was arrested on a nearby highway by the carabinieri.
The Italian unions are preparing mobilizations to protest the tragic event and to demand the settlement of disputes through dialogue, avoiding moves that could favor the increase of tension.
