Majengo Residents Protest Over Dusty Road

Must read

Residents of Majengo in Gitimbine in Meru County have staged a demonstration protesting the heavy dust resulting from the ongoing works on Majengo road.

The angry residents blocked the road on Thursday afternoon using stones and old tyres, which they set ablaze accusing the contractor of failure to pour water on the road to reduce dust that ends up in their homes.

The protest paralyzed business and traffic along the Meru-Nairobi raid at Githongo-Gitimbine junction.

An eyewitness says that the road has become dusty thereby affecting their businesses. She explains that the protests have cost her losses because she was forced to close her business due to the threat of items being destroyed.

Attempts by our reporter to reach the contactor didn’t yield result as his known mobile number wasn’t available.

Police officers who rushed to disperse the protesters declined to comment on the matter.
