More than 200 injured in accident

Must read

More than 200 passengers were injured Monday when two subway trains collided in Kuala Lumpur, according to police in the Malaysian capital, which believes it was an accident.

The collision of the two trains “threw the passengers down” on a metro line that passes through the center of the big city, not far from the Petronas skyscrapers, described the police chief, Mohammad Zainal Abdalla.

Of the more than 200 injured, about 47 are in serious condition, according to police.

One of the two trains, which was going to a depot for repair and was running empty, was found, for an unknown reason, on the same tracks with a train full of people, in a time of great traffic.

Social networking sites post photos and videos of injured people being taken to hospitals and others being cared for in train carriages – people covered in blood on carriage floors amid broken glass.

The criminal scenario seems to have been ruled out in principle; the accident seems to have been due to a communication problem. The two trains did not develop a high speed (20 kilometers per hour each, 40 km / h the second) when they collided, the police clarified.

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Facebook that he had demanded that the Ministry of Transport and the Kuala Lumpur metro company conduct an “in-depth investigation to determine the cause of the accident”.

Such accidents in the metro of the Malaysian capital are very rare.
