Authorities have apprehended a man in Igembe in Meru County who allegedly attacked his brother with a machete.
The victim said the gruesome offence was committed by his brother, a resident of Athaene-Antuambui in Igembe, in their father’s Miraa farm.
Following an encounter at the farm, his brother and father informed that he was a step-child, the victim said, adding after chasing him, his brother also cut him on the head, arm and leg.
“On June 5, after I had left for work in Tanzania, I received a phone call from my father, who asked me to return and check on him because he had been abandoned at the hospital like a dog,” said Carol Wanja, the victim’s daughter.
“I demand justice for my father and urge the government to intervene because I have no idea where he will sleep. I do not know what he’ll eat once he’s been released from the hospital.
“I’d like to advise my grandfather that he should not wait for any of his sons to bring a wife before allocating land to them.
“Every time a member of the family wants to build a house, the suspect, Josephat, has proven to be an impediment. Previously, my uncle built a house and intended to raise a family in it, but the suspect set it on fire.
“My grandfather has a soft spot for the suspect,” she said.
“I went to the Miraa farm to harvest Miraa on April 4th and ran into my father and brother,” said Felix Mung’athia, the victim.
“When they saw me, they told me that I was a stepchild and that I was not a member of the family. They chased me and cut me with a machette on the head, leg, and arm.
“The hospital bill has accumulated to Ksh 80,000, which I am unable to pay. I implore the government to step in and ensure that justice is served.
“The suspect’s name is Josephat, and he is in custody. My stepfather has never allocated us land, which has resulted in squabbles amongst us. Instead, he is constantly selling pieces of land,” he said.
“I treat all five of my sons equally and have not given any of them land. Two of my sons ran into each other when they went to harvest Miraa on my farm. Josephat, the suspect, is accustomed to fleeing after committing a crime,” said Mr. Kaberia, the suspect’s father.
