Enquiries have established a man, believed to be known as Dick, approached the victim, a man in his 20s, whilst he was purchasing airtime at Ngundu in Kauchwa in Meru county.

The man then proceeded to violently assault the victim, hitting him on the head with a large stick, according to the victim. When he tried to hit him again, he blocked him with his hand, resulting in serious injuries.

“He’d gone to Nkubu with his brother to see his in-laws. He alighted at the shop of a man known as Raeri in Ngundu as they were returning and asked for airtime,” said the victim’s mother.

“The suspect and his brother were standing nearby in a heated argument in which the suspect accused his brother, Petero, of spreading rumors about him insulting their father.

“Petero informed his brother that the rumors were true and that they should no longer be brothers. We heard screams and I was informed that my son had been attacked and killed. When we arrived at the scene, he was still lying in a pool of blood on the ground.

“His brother accompanied him to Ngundu police station to report the assault, then to the hospital. Unfortunately, the hospital was closed, and they were not able to receive medication. The suspect fled after insulting his father. He is a bhang addict with mental issues,” she said.
