Meru: A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Igembe, residents said on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Gikundi Iciaro hailing from Antubaiga. He worked as a laborer at Miraa farms, they said.
“I encourage the next generation to have a positive attitude and a strong desire to work. The reason for the man’s suicide cannot be determined,” said Purity Kinya.
“We live in a time when everyone is struggling, and you should not commit suicide because you have been denied the right to inherit property.
“We farm and feed ourselves despite living in rented houses. Everyone is struggling, so whether you are a girl or a boy, you should make an effort to move forward in life.
“Because he was ill and was admitted to the hospital, the deceased’s parents may have neglected him. He chose to end his life as the simplest way to solve the problem.
“His death has deeply saddened me because children commit suicide when their parents have raised them until they are adults and expect them to help them.
“I implore the deceased’s parents to unite and care for the remaining children in order to prevent a similar incident from occurring in the future,” she said.
“I appeal to the deceased’s mother, wherever she may be, to return home and care for the remaining children,” said Kananu.
“Despite the fact that we are not married, we have children and are capable of caring for them,” she said.
