The rider was overtaking a lorry traveling in the same lane, and the pick-up car in the opposite lane did not give him enough room. The pickup car allegedly pushed the passenger so hard that he fell under the wheels of a lorry and was killed. The rider escaped without injury because he had worn a helmet.

An eyewitness, Franklin Kiriinya, strongly advised motorcycle riders to avoid riding in the center of the road, especially when approaching a large vehicle, because a motorcycle may collide with the vehicle. He advised them to overtake only when the road was clear.

“The number of vehicles in Meru County is growing by the day. My advice to people is to ride their motorcycles with caution, especially near the Mt. Kenya Junction. You notice that vehicles do not allow motorcycles to pass through the intersection.
I urge people to obey traffic laws because someone’s life has been taken today, said another eyewitness.
