NKANDONE IGANDENE: A man hanged himself in Meru County over allegedly a dispute with his wife, Murithi Mugambi, the area manager said on Saturday. Hillary Munene, a resident of Nkandone Igandene, was allegedly drunk when he had a quarrel with his wife before he ended his life.

Munene’s body was found hanging on Saturday, following a minor dispute with his wife, the area manager said. He reached the spot and identified the body which was later sent for postmortem, he said.

“I received the report shortly before 11:00 p.m. when John and the deceased’s wife arrived and woke my wife. My wife alerted me, and I went to speak with them. I notified the chief and went to the scene to verify the incident,” he said.

“After I confirmed it with the chief, he asked that I remain at the scene to prevent any interference with the evidence. When I conducted my own investigation, I discovered that the deceased had marital problems because he was allegedly drunk,” he added.

A friend to the deceased said they both respected each other and hadn’t each other in a long time. “I was shocked to learn that he had committed suicide, and I have no idea why he chose to end his life. I suspect the problem was that he was depressed, addicted to alcohol, or had marital problems,” he said.
