A man survived the members of the community’s wrath at Ndulumu village in Igembe sub-county, Meru County.
The members of the community accused the man of land grabbing. The police arrived on time and intervened.
A police spokesperson said he appreciated the efforts of the members of the community to maintain peace. He implored them to have faith in the government authorities.

“I urge members of the community to remain calm if they discover beacons in their lands. The government will protect their lands from land grabbers,” a police spokesperson said.
A member of the community said when he arrived on the scene, he found casual workers setting up beacons. He said he inquired from the chief, the D.C., and the MCA if a report had been made, but there was none.
“We were shocked to learn that a land grabber was in the process of acquiring the land of community members with title deeds. We are grateful that the police arrived on time after being notified, otherwise, there would have been clashes between the owners and the land grabbers,” a member of the community said.
Linus Gathera, Meru Njuri Ncheke chairman, thanked the community members who did not take the law into their own hands by lynching the suspect.
“We were taken aback by a land grabber who claimed ownership of land that have title deeds. Lands in Ntunene, Antuambui, and Akirang’ondu have title deeds and owners. There is not a single parcel of land in Igembe that does not have a title deed, and anyone claiming ownership must first go through the proper government channels,” Linus said.
“We will not let the suspect go free because he has money. It will only cause havoc in the community. The suspect should sue the person who sold him the parcel for his money. We cannot allow individuals to seize private property,” Linus said.
The chairman of Antuambui 2 adjudication section said that he was informed by the Ndulume OCS that the suspect was a road contractor who was tarmacking the Isiolo-Mandera road.
He said he confirmed it with another person and discovered that it was false.
“When we arrived on the scene, we discovered beacons being placed on the land. We went to the DC’s office to report the incident and were directed to Madam Perpetua, the D.O. When we arrived on the scene, we were astounded to see casual workers being paid,” he said.
The suspect was apprehended, and the OCPD Laare was expected to question him.
