A man was found dead in a compound of a home in Kioro Athwana village in Meru County. According to an eyewitness, police received the call at around 06:00 AM but arrived at 11:00 AM.
“Based on his behavior, the deceased seemed to be a university student. The police took a long time to reply after we discovered him dead. One of us volunteered and went to the police station to report this incident. He’d stop by the bodaboda shade every now and then to spend some time before leaving and claiming to have gone to campus,” said an eyewitness.
According to an eyewitness, the chief was notified but never responded on time. She said the chief disappointed members of the community.
“The chief would, however, be the first on the scene if a case of illegal brew had been discovered. When I arrived on the scene, I discovered the deceased was bare-chested and dressed in a pair of trousers. I left a women’s group meeting and I later learned that the police arrived on the scene and collected the body,” said an eyewitness.
Another eyewitness stated that when she arrived on the scene to find out what had happened, she was shown the place where the deceased had jumped over a fence into Kariithi’s compound prior to his death.
It is said that the deceased breathed heavily before passing away, and no injuries were found on his body.
