Man Found Hanging From Tree

A man was found hanging from a tree in Kibuline Kieru village in Meru County. Eyewitnesses are unsure if the death is a homicide or a suicide.

The victim’s identity was immediately released as Kirema.

According to a resident, the deceased lived in Njuraine village before selling his land and relocating to Kibuline Kieru village. He stayed for a while before departing for an extended period of time.

“It wasn’t long after he returned that people claimed he wasn’t circumcised and called him Mwiji, a Kimeru nickname for someone who isn’t circumcised,” said an eyewitness.

Another resident the deceased was a very talkative person who carried a bible with him everywhere he went and opened it to read a scripture whenever he met someone.

According to another resident, the deceased was married with two children, but they divorced after one of their children was burned to death in their home.

“He left food cooking in his kitchen on the day he committed suicide. He wore a trenchcoat, shoes, socks, and a warm pair of trousers, indicating that he was afraid of getting cold,” said a resident.

A relative to the deceased said they were neighbors before he sold his land.

“He was an active member of my church, Majengo Ministries, but he later dropped out,” he said.

The relative added that the deceased was well-known in the community for selling tree seedlings to residents.
