A man in Meru County has ended his life by hanging, despite attempts by family to dissuade him from the act.
The deceased according to an eyewitness has been identified as Evans Mwiti a resident of Kamatumo Mitheru village.
An eyewitness said Mwiti had been taken to the hospital and escaped after consuming drugs while attempting suicide.
“The family later tried to prevent him from committing suicide that night. He was found hanging on a tree the next morning,” said an eyewitness.
“I encourage people to reach out to others when they are facing a challenge so that they can be helped,” she said.
Mwiti had good health, was hardworking, and was married, according to her. She expressed her condolences to the people of Kamatumo village for experiencing such a tragedy.
“I urge members of the community not to assume that the issue is simple, as we intend to work with them when a challenge arises,” she said.
Another eyewitness said that on that fateful day, he asked his companion to check on what was hanging from a tree.
“When my friend got a better look, he told me it was a person. I immediately contacted the Sub-Area,” he explained.
According to another eyewitness, Mwiti was a mason who had no financial difficulties. He was well-liked, she said.
“A neighbor informed me that there was a person who committed suicide at his home by hanging,” she explained.
“When I arrived on the scene, I discovered that it was a person I knew. It has not been confirmed why he decided to take his own life “she stated.
Mwiti, she said, couldn’t pass someone on the road without greeting them. She advised those who believe they are facing a challenge to seek the assistance of a pastor so that they can be helped through prayer.
“I encourage parents to keep an eye on their sons and guide them so that when they face difficulties, they can speak up,” she said.
“Research shows that men die at a higher rate than women because women share their burden with others,” she explained.
Men, she claims, do not share their difficulties for fear of embarrassment.
According to another eyewitness, those who commit suicide bring a curse on themselves, and God cannot accept such people despite previously accepting him.
