Police arrested a man Thursday after he was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl at a home in Athaene village in Igembe, Meru County, according to police.
A sexual assault was reported to Laare Police Station. The victim’s mother reported that Mwenda of Athaene, raped her, daughter, according to the police.
Laare OCS Ezra Sambo told Baite Tv the suspect was well known in the community.
The victim told Baite Tv that while she was sipping tea, the suspect entered the house and locked the door from inside. He barricaded the door when she attempted I flee. Mwenda then raped her and gave her Sh100 after the act for Mandazi, according to the victim.
According to the victim, she had arrived home at 7:00 a.m. after being sent away from school.
The victim’s mother said that when she got home, she found Mwenda on his son’s bed and when he asked what he was doing at her house, Mwenda said that he was waiting for her.
“My children had already left for school when I left for work. I got home at 9:00 a.m. and ran into my daughter on the way. When I asked her why she wasn’t at school, she said that she had been sent home over a Sh750 unpaid tuition fee. She said she was going to the shop,” she said.
She said that when she asked her daughter why her dress was wet as it was been clean when she left for school that morning, her daughter remained silent.
“I informed the suspect that I was not involved in a romantic relationship with him and that he should leave. My daughter arrived just as he was about to leave, and I suspected foul play. When I asked her what the suspect had done to her, she remained silent,” she said.
She said that she threatened to take her to the police station and informed her that she might have contracted a disease. Out of fear, she revealed that she had been defiled by the suspect after he promised to buy her mandazi, according to the victim’s mother.
According to Sambo, the suspect was arrested and taken to the hospital where his samples were taken. He said that the victim was treated for her injuries.
He was held at the Laare Police Station and was due in court today.
