A major search operation, involving special forces and helicopters, was under way in the Dordogne region of southern France today following reports that a man had shot at police, France Info reported.
There are no reports of casualties. “The man, a former military man, is armed and unarmed as we speak. A police operation is being carried out to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control,” Frederic Perissa, Dordon prefect, told BFM. “The man went to his ex-partner’s house at night. There was a dispute, which led to the intervention of the gendarmerie and that is when the suspect shot at them. “Then he escaped to a nearby forest,” he added.
The Dordogne region, in a Twitter message, called on residents of the Le Larden-Saint-Lazare area to stay in their homes until they are younger.
