A coffin box comprising the body of a man was exhumed from his alleged agricultural land triggering panic in Kitheo village in Meru County. A dispute over the land in which the body was buried, prompted a buyer to obtain a court order.
When a villager died seven months ago, his family members buried his body in their agricultural field at the village. However, the coffin comprising his body was exhumed which has become viral on social media.
It is learnt that the buyer of the land obtained a court order, which was issued to the Ngundune police station.
“When the deceased’s grandmother applied for cessation to inherit her late husband’s property, she discovered that 40 points were missing. She was told that the deceased had stolen the points from his grandfather and secretly sold them. The court ruled that the buyer who obtained the court order to exhume the body was the owner,” an eyewitness said.
According to Jeremiah Gichunge, a resident, members of the community claimed that the buyer’s title deed was forged, but they were proven wrong.
According to the deceased’s grandmother, when the deceased was being buried, family members requested the court order and the buyer, but they were nowhere to be found.
