A 16-year old boy from Mochenwa location, Masaba North Sub County has been arrested for planting bhang in their family farm.

The minor, a secondary school student at Matutu Secondary school was arrested Wednesday evening by the Mochenwa sub-location assistant chief, Henry Otiso in collaboration with village elders and Nyumba Kumi officials.

The County Commissioner Amos Mariba confirming the incident said members of the public tipped off the area assistant chief about the minor’s criminal act of planting and trading in the illegal commodity, while he was supposed to be in school.

“The minor had actually sneaked out of school and members of the public tipped the area administrators that the boy had joined a gang dealing with consumption and sale of unauthorized drugs.

The gang members, later on, revealed that the minor was the main supplier of bhang, which he had planted in a thicket inside their farm,” explained Mariba.

The county commissioner said upon arrest, the minor led the local administrators to the thicket within their farm, where he had planted the Cannabis Sativa.

The administrators uprooted the bhang plants and carried some twigs to be used as exhibits when the culprit is arraigned in court.

The minor was booked at Gesima police post and will be arraigned before the Keroka law courts today.
