With an overwhelming vote in support of the first amendment, lawmakers gave the BBI a clean bill of health on Thursday.
MPs achieved the required two-thirds majority to vote on a bill to amend the constitution for the first time.
At least 320 members voted in the second stage, with 235 voting in favor of the bill, 83 voting against it, and two abstaining.
During the vote, most of Deputy President William Ruto’s allies opposed the bill, which was largely influenced by the country’s political alignments. Some people voted in favor.
During the third reading, there were 224 yes votes, 63 no votes, and two abstentions.
The Senate, which is expected to vote on the bill next week, will now be the focus of attention.
However, the promoters will have to wait for the High Court to rule on a case challenging the BBI process.
A five-judge panel barred the IEBC from holding or planning a referendum on the bill until the matter before it is resolved.
Since last Wednesday, the National Assembly has been debating the BBI bill.
If the process is upheld by the courts, the IEBC will hold a vote by universal suffrage.
“As a result, the eyes are affected. As a result, I direct that the bill be read a third time “Justin Muturi, the speaker, stated.
At eight minutes to midnight, the House was adjourned.
