Mount Kenya Youth Caucus has dismissed claims that former Meru County Governor Peter Gatirau Munya should be been coronated as Mt Kenya’s spokesman.
The group spoke at a presser in Chuka as they rallied youth from Tharaka Nithi, Meru, and Embu counties in support of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi who was coronated by Agikuyu elders at a cultural ceremony held at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine in Murang’a County.
They slammed the former Meru County governor Munya for being jealous of Muturi and said that he was not fit to be crowned spokesperson because he was defeated in the 2017 general elections.
“As Mt Kenya East youth, we want to be involved in the debate on Mt Kenya’s spokesperson. We disagree with the politicians who are claiming that he is unfit to serve as Mount Kenya’s spokesperson,” said Kageni Kiraithe, MKEYC member.
“PNU party leader Peter Munya leader has one MP in parliament out of 345 members. It proves that he has no supporters and has been forgotten,” said Dennis Njeru, MKEYC member.
Former North Imenti Mp Silas Muriuki opposed National Assembly Justin Muturi’s coronation as Mt Kenya spokesman and said that President Uhuru Kenyatta is the current spokesman.

He said that the president will show us the spokesman-elect and suggested that the crown might fall on Peter Munya.
Top Meru Opinion Maker Son of Monica said the coronation of Justin Muturi as Mount Kenya’s spokesman is a ploy by a few people who wish to divide the Meru community.
“Women and youth were not involved in the coronation decision making, despite the fact that the youth account for 60% of the vote. If they truly wanted us to back Justin Muturi as Mount Kenya’s spokesperson, they would have sought the views and opinions of men, women, and the elderly,” said Son of Monica.
He warned that the current debate over whether Muturi should be the spokesman or not may escalate conflicts with our neighbors in the Mt Kenya West region.
“We were never informed about who the spokeswoman and youth spokesperson should be when he was crowned as spokesman. As we all know, President Uhuru Kenyatta is currently the Mount Kenya spokesman. Nobody else should be made spokesman until he completes his term,” said Son of Monica.
He pointed out that there was a rush to appoint Muturi as spokesman before the parliament was dissolved.
“We should ask ourselves if he will bring any development after the coronation. There is a hidden agenda that the political influencers behind his coronation are not telling us about. Once he is coronated, their goal is to ascend to their desired seats,” said Son of Monica.
“The Meru community should observe the matter closely and consider whether Muturi will assist the Meru child. I urge the people of Meru to elect a candidate based on the track record of development rather than how many political parties they have or have brought,” said Son of Monica.
The vocal Opinionist said Meru County Hon Bishop Kawira Mwangaza’s track record of development spoke for itself and urged Meru people to reject being persuaded to fight against the Central region.
“MCAs and MPs in Mount Kenya East may have been bribed to go around showing support for Muturi as Mount Kenya spokesperson,” said Son of Monica.
The Mount Kenya Youth Caucus said that in the past, during political campaigns, the youth were used to erect posters, wave placards, and chant to rally support for politicians.
The group urged the youth should make their own political decisions that in the upcoming general elections and reject bribes.
