Muthambi Girls students go on strike

Must read

Muthambi girls’ students have gone on strike. Students walked out of school at 4 a.m. today and marched to the Ministry of Education’s offices to protest the school’s leadership.

The students marched to the Ministry of Education offices in Kieganguru, Chogoria town. Others marched to Chuka town after crossing the Nithi bridge.

The students protested over poor feeding in the school and blamed the new principal, Rose Kiragu. Their grievances also included mistreatment by the teachers.

The school administration refused to allow parents who arrived at the school to seek answers, leaving them stranded at the gate.

“I got a call from a boda boda operator who asked if I knew the students walked out of school. He told me that the students left school at 4 a.m “a parent said.

“I waited for a text from school administration informing me that my daughter was on her way home, but I didn’t get one. I decided to go to school, but when I arrived at the gate, I discovered that no one was allowed in and that no information had been communicated to us “a parent said.

“All I saw were the shoes of the students scattered about. Some of the students enrolled in Form One reported to school yesterday, but their whereabouts are unknown “a parent said.

“We request that Education CS George Magoha visit the school, conduct investigations, and explain the problem to us,” a parent said.

Following the parents being locked out of the school in an attempt to find out what happened, they requested Education CS Professor George Magoha to intervene and settle the matter because the school has never gone on strike before today.

“The Ministry of Education should step in and resolve the issue. We are new parents at the school and are unable to ascertain what occurred. I urge the ministry to investigate the root cause of the problem so that parents and students can receive assistance “a parent stated

“We refused to send our children to day schools because we thought boarding school would be safer, but children walking out of school at 4 a.m. is total neglect by the school management,” another parent said.

According to a parent, the school administration should take the matter seriously because it has never happened before. Muthambi Girls High School, she said, has always been known as one of the best schools in Tharaka Nithi County.
