Spanish police are investigating the death of a 39-year-old man whose body was found inside a dinosaur statue.
Authorities were notified on Saturday after a father and son noticed a strange odor coming from a dinosaur statue in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, a suburb of Barcelona.
The father saw the corpse through a crack in Stegosaurus’ hollow leg. Police said he was a missing man, whose disappearance had been reported by his family.
Three fire brigades were called to the scene after the body was discovered and firefighters cut off the dinosaur’s leg to free it.
Local media reported that the man was trying to catch a mobile phone that he threw inside the statue. He fell in and was trapped, unable to ask for help.
Police have not confirmed how the man ended up inside the dinosaur and are waiting for the results of his autopsy to find out how he died.
