The National Assembly’s Liaison Committee chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Moses Cheboi, today started a three-day retreat in Mombasa County.
The meeting which brings together all the Chairpersons of Committees of the National Assembly is meant to provide an opportunity for the Committees to discuss and resolve mechanisms to ensure that Committees discharge their mandate effectively.
In his keynote address and official opening, the Deputy Speaker Hon. Moses Cheboi outlined the achievements by the Liaison Committee during the 12th Parliament key among them the organization of the inaugural Public Forum of Committees of the National Assembly in October 2019, and mainstreaming the Committee system in the National Assembly.
In addition, Hon. Cheboi reminded the Committee Chairpersons that they have to work really hard in the short time left before the end of the current Parliament.

“Let us achieve what we can in the short time left,” he urged them. He further challenged them to offer the best leadership and set motion for the next Liaison Committee.
The opening remarks were made by the Leader of Majority Party and Chairman Committee on Selection, Hon. (Dr.) Amos Kimunya. In his speech Hon. Kimunya called upon Committee Chairpersons to create time beyond other competing priorities to fast track business before them and “strategize to conduct business at Committee and plenary within the short time left”.
The Clerk of the National Assembly Mr. Michael Sialai, while making his welcoming remarks focused on the relationship between the National Assembly and the Judiciary, noting that it has always been good and as anticipated by the law.
“The National Assembly has not had any relationship with the Judiciary other than which is within the provisions of the law”, he said.
The key role of the Liaison Committee is to, coordinate the activities of all Committees in order to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the Committees of the National Assembly.
