Nine people killed in gun attack

Must read

Nine people were killed Monday by unknown gunmen in a rural area of southwestern Colombia, the human rights watchdog said.

Gunmen stormed a house in the town of Algeciras and “killed eight men and a woman,” the ministry said in a statement, without elaborating on the motive for the attack.

Seven people, including two minors, were killed in the same house last year, according to the NGO Indepaz.

The Independent Observatory lists 41 massacres – the simultaneous killing of at least three people, as defined by the UN – that have been committed in the country since the beginning of the year.

Apostates rejecting the 2016 peace deal signed by the former FARC, gang members and ELN fighters, claim control of areas and revenue from the trafficking of illicit drugs, mainly gold, to southwestern Colombia.

The area is also rocked by protests and violent incidents that have claimed the lives of at least 59 people since April 28 across the Latin American country.
