At least 91 people have been killed after an explosion on an oil tanker on the outskirts of the Sierra Leonean capital .
The blast also injured several people, some in critical condition, according to Mohamed Lamrane Bah, communications director at Sierra Leone’s National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
Authorities have transported the injured to hospitals and collected the bodies and the rescue effort at the scene is over, he added.
Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr said she “heard of an explosion along Bai Bureh Street in Wellington after a truck carrying fuel collided with another truck.”
” The videos and photos that are making the rounds on social media are scary, ” he added.
“My condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the explosion. “May the souls of the dead rest in absolute peace,” he concluded.
