Must read

A car on Sunday afternoon fell into a deep open ditch inside Nteere park in Meru County. The driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt.

Eyewitnesses said the maroon car had been parked in the area along the Meru-Makutano road next to Nteere park. A man started reversing the vehicle while being guided by another person behind the car when it suddenly fell into the ditch.

The driver was stuck inside and bystanders pulled him out.

An eyewitness said that due to regular rainfall, the slab got pushed to the ground and the car fell into it while reversing.

“Along with the help of the bystanders, we pulled out the occupant as the windows had got locked,” an eyewitness said.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist was injured in a fiery crash on Meru-Nairobi highway apparently caused by a wrong-way driver on Friday, eyewitnesses said.

The crash was reported at Nkubu, South Imenti Sub-County, eyewitnesses told Bate Tv on Friday.

Responding officers found that a motorcyclist had crashed head-on into a motorist on Meru-Nairobi Highway.

The motorcyclist, who eyewitnesses have only identified as a man, was pronounced injured at the scene, eyewitnesses said. His name and age were being withheld pending notification of family members.

An eyewitness said that a motorist driving along Meru-Nairobi Highway collided with the motorcyclist near Nkubu.

“To avoid colliding with motorcyclists, motorists should indicate when turning. The car is said to belong to a community member named Murugu,” an eyewitness said.

According to an eyewitness, motorists and motorcyclists should avoid chewing khat, driving while intoxicated, and answering phone calls while speeding.

“I urge boda boda operators to follow traffic laws because the majority of them do not have licenses. The accident was caused by the motorist, and I urge other motorists to be cautious of motorcyclists on the road,” an eyewitness said.

“Motorists must avoid taking motorcyclists for granted and respect them in order to save lives as the Christmas season approaches. Animals, people, motorcyclists, motorists, and pedestrians share the roads,” an eyewitness said.

An eyewitness urged the young generation who ride motorcycles on public roads to be cautious in order to save lives. He advised drivers to avoid being distracted on the road by issues in their personal lives and to maintain focus while driving.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced injured, an eyewitness said.
