South African minority MP Richard Onyonka has been ousted as the Deputy Leader of Ford Kenya in a change made yesterday at the National Congress of its Members (NDC)
The name of Mr Onyonka, who has been campaigning for the presidency of ODM Leader Raila Odinga, was not listed among the new Ford Kenya officials published in the newspapers yesterday. Ford Kenya is one of the subsidiaries of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).
They were elected at the NDC conference, held on November 4, 2021, at the Bomas of Kenya hall, Nairobi. Ford Kenya’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer has been replaced by Millicent Anyango Abudhu, who has been acting Acting Secretary-General following the dismissal of Tongaren MP Simiyu Eseli.
At the conference held at Bomas Hall, Nairobi about 1,500 delegates from Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula retained his position as Ford Kenya National Leader. Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa was unanimously elected General Secretary of the party.
The post was formerly held by Dr Eseli who along with his Kanduyi colleague Wafula Wamunyinyi tried to oust Mr Wetang’ula from power last year. Dr Simiyu and Mr Wamunyinyi chaired a meeting they claimed belonged to the Ford Kenya Central Committee at a restaurant in Nairobi and announced the removal of the Wetang’ula group.
The two factions clashed in the high court where a judge ruled that Mr Wetang’ula’s group was legitimate.
