Meru: In a shocking incident, a student was mercilessly beaten up by a school teacher for not reporting back to him after being sent to run an errand. The incident took place in Tigania at Rei Primary School in Meru County. The accused was identified as a teacher.

Villagers stormed the school and demanded action against the accused teacher. According to the victim, a student at his school became ill, and the accused teacher sent him home to notify his parent.

He arrived at the sick student’s home but was unable to locate the parent. On his way back to school, he ran into the sick student, who was being escorted home by two of his classmates. He accompanied them back and later returned to school.

“I went straight to class and found a teacher in session. I proceeded straight to my desk after the teacher sought to know where I was coming from,” said the victim.

The following day, the teacher who sent the victim summoned him and demanded to know why he failed to report back to him.

“He accused me of skipping school and together with eight other teachers, he beat me up with a rope and sticks,” said the victim.

According to the victim, he bled from his nose and mouth while being beaten. The victim’s grandmother went to the school the next day to inquire about the incident.

“My grandson lives with me, and his mother lives in Nairobi. When he returned home covered in bloodstains, I requested a neighbor to take him to the hospital and notified his mother. When I arrived at school, the teachers noticed me and hid in the office. I knew they couldn’t talk to me because I hadn’t put on a mask,” said the victim’s grandmother.

According to the victim’s grandmother, she spent the entire day at school and then returned home without receiving any assistance. The victim’s mother went to the school the next morning to inquire about the incident.

“I demand to know why, instead of being sent home, my son was beaten until he bled like a goat in a slaughterhouse. When I went to the school to inquire about the incident earlier this morning, the headteacher and chief chased me away,” said the victim’s mother.

According to the victim’s mother, many students have been expelled by the headteacher and are working in quarries crushing ballast.
