Parliament staff participate in Annual National Assembly Sports Day

The National Staff yesterday took time off to unwind during the Annual National Assembly Sports Day held at the Absa Sports Club, off Thika Highway.

The action packed day saw staff pooled into either “Team Order’ or “Team Mace”.

The former drew participants from among staff serving at the Serjeant-at-Arms Department, Catering Services Department, the Directorate of Legislative and Procedural Services and the Directorate of Legal Services while the latter comprised of staff serving at the Hansard Department, the Directorate of Departmental Committees, Directorate of Audit, Appropriations and other Select Committees, the Directorate of the Speaker’s and the Parliamentary Budget Office.

Speaking during the games’ opening ceremony, the Clerk of the National Assembly Mr. Michael Sialai encouraged staff to regularly take time off to undetake physical exercise so as to boost both their mental and physical wellness.

Noting that parliamentary officers work long hours due to work exigencies, he underscored the need for all staff to participate in such events as the sports day, as they accord them time not only to exercise, but to also interact and bond thus building cohesion among staff.

The disciplines the teams participated in include:athletics, football,basketball,volleyball,netball,swimming, darts,table tennis, badminton, tug of war and chess.
