Last week in Meru County, there was a lot of political heat between two camps.
Kiraitu Murungi’s camp was one, and Peter Munya’s camp was another. Mpuru Aburi, EALA MP and Munya’s right-hand lashed out at Kiraitu Murungi’s camp during a tea farmers’ meeting.
“Munya has accomplished a great deal for our country. He has fought for us for a long time, which is why we say we will stand by him for the rest of our lives. We are not joking when we say that we will support him in any way we can,” said Mpuru.
There were some responses from Kiraitu Murungi’s camp at another funeral service ceremony. One of the respondents was one of Kiraitu’s government officials known as Alhaji Mwendia, director of public communications in Meru County, who serves as Kiraitu Murungi’s right hand.
“Munya has five months before he has to leave office. Any Cabinet Minister who wishes to run for a political seat must resign by February 2nd. Munya can’t go two sentences without mentioning Kiraitu at every meeting he attends,” said Alhaji.
Mpuru said Munya was rumored to be running for Deputy President.
“My question to Meru County residents is between Munya and Kiraitu, who would go to heaven first in terms of age? , It is Kiraitu because he is older and that’s why we should let him play in the water for the remaining time,” said Mpuru.
Alhaji urged Munya not to run for a higher seat, but rather for governor. He said by 8:00 a.m. on August 9, 2022, he will have been sent him home.
“We’ve been in politics for 30 years,” said Alhaji.
Mpuru urged Munya not to be afraid because he has the support of Kenyans.
“There are no shortcuts or jokes that can be made about the situation. We will fight back until the end if someone fights Munya,” said Mpuru.
Alhaji said that Munya should be aware that over half of the votes he received last time came from Igembe, totaling 117,000 votes, and not from Tigana.
“Munya should remember that when he was elected governor during his first term, it was the people of Imenti who gave him the majority of votes, not the people of Nyambene,” said Alhaji.
Mpuru vowed to stand with Munya all hours of the day and night.
“Governor Kiraitu took over Meru County government from Munya when it was in good shape. However, nothing was done to grow Meru County in the first, second, third, or fourth years. We intend to re-elect Munya as governor, and development projects will begin to take shape within the first year,” said Mpuru.
Alhaji said that Munya should abandon petty politics and address the people of Meru County, telling them what he intends to do for them.
“He should keep in mind, however, that by 8 a.m. on August 9, We will have sent him home,” said Alhaji.
Mpuru said Munya’s track record spoke for itself, spanning the years 2013 to 2017. He said nothing was done in Meru County since Governor Kiraitu took over.
Alhaji said that as an official in Kiraitu Murungi’s government, he requested Meru County residents to compare Munya’s development from 2013 to 2017 to Governor Kiraitu’s development over the last four years.
“If Munya achieves, 20% of Governor Kiraitu’s track record, I will vote for Munya,” said Alhaji.
Mpuru said Kiraitu had grown old and would not be re-elected. He said his reign was coming to an end, and he will be sent home on August 9, 2022.
According to Alhaji, leaders addressing residents while carrying rungus is a result of poverty in Meru County. He said carrying horns is what forced the residents of Meru County to live in poverty for the rest of their lives.
