MERU: A man was punished by the members of the public when he was caught snatching a phone in Riverland, Meru town, before trying to flee on his motorcycle.
The victim was a passenger on his motorcycle and the suspect snatched her phone that she held in her hand.
The suspect who then tried to flee on his motorcycle was pulled out before falling to the ground and was apprehended by the members of the public.

“The suspect is known to be associated with phone theft cases in the past,” said an eyewitness.
The members of the public also managed to retrieve the victim’s hand phone.
Meanwhile, video clips of the incident were widely shared among WhatsApp groups and on social media.
In the video clip, a group of men was seen to be surrounding the suspect and pummeling him.
A few minutes later, the suspect was escorted to the Meru police station, however, he was released by the members of the public when they arrived at the entrance.
They cited that the victim did not avail herself to file a complaint as the reason behind his release.
