An Afghan plane believed to be carrying military personnel crashed in Uzbekistan on Sunday, a spokesman for the Asian foreign ministry confirmed on Monday.
“The plane from Afghanistan illegally crossed the border into Uzbekistan. “Investigations are ongoing,” said a spokesman for the plane, which was allegedly “struck” by Uzbekistan’s air defense system as soon as it was spotted and crashed in the southern province of Surkontario, which borders Afghanistan.

According to the Russian agency RIA, the pilot has been injured. Meanwhile, a doctor at a hospital in Surcontario told AFP on Sunday night that he had received two wounded men wearing Afghan military uniforms who had “parachuted” from the plane before it crashed.
