Hillary Mutyambai, the Inpector-General of police in Kenya has formed an elaborate multi-agency team comprised of a special crime prevention unit that deals with homicides and a special anti-mugging squad that handles robbery with violence incidents.

“We have police officers on patrol 24/7. We also have an elaborate multi-agency team comprised of a special crime prevention unit that deals with homicides. We also encourage members of the public to report to the police should they spot any unusual activity,” Mutyambai said in a Twitter engagement forum where Kenyans raised concerns over rising insecurity cases in Nairobi.

“We have a special anti-mugging squad that handles robbery with violence incidents including the ones that involve Boda boda riders. We have been engaging the operators through a sensitization program dubbed Usalama barararani on abiding by the rule of law,” the IG said.

“We have a Child Protection Unit under the DCI that deals with children matters. We have also deployed officers in various parts to heighten security but another strategy is to engage the leaders under community policing,” The IG made the statement in response to a concerned citizen who inquired about the strategy in place to prevent minors from being defiled and disappearing.
