A city-based detective was on Tuesday midnight shot and badly wounded by his colleague at the South B Police Band canteen.

Sergeant Thenge allegedly pulled out his firearm and shot one Police Constable Absolom Okinyi on his right leg, on the thigh to be precise.

The two differed on what is yet to be established before Thenge who is attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) training in Nairobi pulled the trigger.

Okinyi is attached to Railways police station and works as a sleuth.

“It was reported by one Richard Kokoyo who is the Officer in Charge (OC) South B Police Band Canteen that there was a shooting at the canteen on October 19, 2021, at midnight,” the report read in part.

Once the report was made, the scene was visited by an orderly officer attached to Festus Maingi, duty officer and the DCI personnel.

The Namanga officer who was shot was rushed to Nairobi South Hospital was admitted but he is said to be in a stable condition.

“At the scene, four cartilages and two bullet heads of 9MM were recovered from the scene. The motive of the shooting is not yet established,” the police report further revealed.

Police say that the suspect went into hiding immediately after he committed the crime and the firearm is yet to be found.

Already, a multi-agency team has been formed and tasked to pursue him.

The incident happened barely 24 hours after two police officers in Namanga were arrested following a shooting incident.

The report revealed that one officer identified as Caleb Ngwala heard gunshots sounds from his house which prompted him to dash out only to find his colleagues namely; Julius Kiboino and John Ikenye in a gunfight.

He disarmed Ikenye and the firearm was kept as an exhibit.
